US megastar Mark Wahlberg has been named the highest-paid actor in the world this year.
As the highest-paid actor so far, Wahlberg banked USD 68 million pretax in the last 12 months.
The former rapper-turned-actor registered his highest-ever payday following the release of movies such as ‘Transformers: The Last Knight’ and the forthcoming ‘Daddy's Home 2’.
Although the two films have been critically panned, terms of his contracts guarantee a fixed compensation regardless of box-office failures or successes.
The Boston native edged out last year's top-ranked star, Dwayne Johnson, who made USD 65 million over the past year.
The third highest-paid actor this year is ‘Fast and Furious’ star Vin Diesel, who made USD 54.5 million.
Rounding out the top five are Adam Sandler with USD 50.5 million and Jackie Chan with USD 49 million, respectively.
The world's 20 highest-paid actors tallied a combined USD 720 million between June 1, 2016, and June 1, 2017, before fees and taxes. Earnings estimates are based on data from Nielsen, ComScore, Box Office Mojo and IMDB, as well as interviews with industry insiders.
A quarter of the world's 20 highest-paid actors this year include those from outside the US, including stars from Bollywood such as Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan and Akshay Kumar.
